What do iPods have to do with Broadband Tech?
For everyday consumers to capitalize on the emerging broadband technologies, the REAL direction Apple wants to progress things, means providing tools for creation and delivery. For those who wish to create content and deliver it via broadband, either as a subscription or pay-per-access, this presents opportunities that will certainly fuel growth of this new market.

Check the Grid - Movie Reviews.
There's a grid for checking out movies.
Fall 2002 US TV Schedule Grid.
I always enjoy looking forward to a new Fall TV season.

The grid has the new Fall 2002 broadcast TV schedule. Too bad cable shows aren't included.

TV Guide has a grid too. This one lets you click on the new shows.

Let's watch TV!

Saturday: There's probably something on cable.

Sunday: Futurama, The Simpsons, Alias, Monk (on USA) is the funniest thing to hit TV since Lenny Clarke on The Job.

Monday: Boston Public: Joey McIntyre will rule!

Tuesday: 24, NYPD Blue

Wednesday: Enterprise, The Bachelor 2, Some medical program: flip a coin.

Thursday: I liked that Dinotopia movie, might be more fun to watch than Survivor: Thailand. Maybe they could introduce little dinosaurs to Survivor, that I'd watch! I'll have to check out Do Over.

Push, Nevada, ER. That Bibb babe from Popular joins the show in week two. Go Carter!

Friday: Firefly, John Doe. Too bad Hack and That Was Then are also on at the same time. I'll start with Fox because of their strong lead in show that provides a strong audience for John Doe. That's their plan and I don't have to change the channel either.

Alexander Keith's Beer.
His beer is my favorite beer. Too bad you can't get it here in the states.

A Walk Through Jamaica Pond
A Walk Through Jamaica Pond.
Well, not actually through the pond, but more like around it.

Here's the first 'roll' of pictures I took with my new Canon GL2 digital camera. I know I'm late to the digital picture party, but I've been happy with my old film camera for a long time.

If I knew how much fun it is to take digital photos vs. film, I'd have jumped on this bandwagon a long time ago. Back in the old days, I had a 35mm Minolta SRT 101 camera. It was a tank. Mostly made of metal. I was the yearbook photographer in High School and a newspaper photographer in college.

After that, I mostly took family pictures. At any family affair, I was the designated photogtrapher.

So now I have this new camera. It is amazing. It's really made to take movies, but also has a digital still camera built in.

I've got it programmed to make a 'click' sound when I press the shutter.

Depending on the resolution, you can take up to almost 100 pictures. the cool thing is that you don't have to worry about wasting film. It's always in the back of your mind. Should I take this photo, or should I wait for a better shot. Well, with digital, you can take as many shots as you like and keep the ones you want.

The 100x digital zoom on this camera is amazing. Allowed me to get some really cool shots.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Sherlock 3 is a new way to look at info on the web without having to use a browser. For example, Sherlock 3 allows you to find movies. That's good since smarterchild AIM Bot went away and my Watson trial ended. I don't need to buy Watson now either. Sherlock 3 also lets you track eBay auctions.

Steve used it to look at his stocks and they showed no activity. He was upset and then they told him that the market wasn't open yet.

Rendevous will be inbuilt into iTunes early next year. It will allow you to stream music from a friends Powerbook. It's cool. Devices will talk to each other over an IP network seamlessley with no configuration. It's totally open. No one will own it.

Tom Tomorrow's cartoon preceded the government's TIPS program. Now that it's out, Tom says:
Facism is a term thrown about too freely, and I don't believe we're at a point that its use is justified--but an oppressive and intrusive government, however you want to label it, does not ride into town wearing the uniforms and waving the flags of recognizable evil. It creeps in slowly, wrapped in the flag of your own country, and speaking the language of patriotism and duty, and at each step along the way, its actions seem plausible and defensible--until one morning you wake up and realize the gulf between the way things were and the way things are has grown so wide that there is no going back. Sinclair Lewis tried to point this out more than a half century ago, and given the current climate, It Can't Happen Here is well worth re-reading (or reading for the first time, if you've never come across it before).
I found this over at Wil Wheaton's web site where people have a nice discussion going of over 100 messages.

Are we overreacting to a sensible measure or is the government going to far. You decide.

And what will people start reporting? When the Anthrax scare happened, people around here were overwhelming the Health Lab with moldy attic junk, which the staff had to waste their time analyzing.

Today's Boston Globe Editorial has this to say:
Ashcroft's informant corps is a vile idea not merely because it violates civil liberties in a narrow legal sense or because it will sabotage genuine efforts to prevent terrorism by overloading law enforcement officials with irrelevant reports about Americans who have nothing to do with terrorists.
Look what happens today when people pass notes on airplanes.

IT IS TIME FOR THE IRS TO GO
May 25, 2001
Madam Speaker, an investigation revealed that 16,000 IRS employees illegally used their computers. The report states IRS agents spent 50 percent of their time at work on personal business. If that is not enough to service your revenue, IRS agents illegally used their computers for shopping, stock trading, gambling and pornography. Unbelievable.

Think about it. While 60 percent of taxpayer calls to the IRS go unanswered, the IRS agents were watching Marilyn Chambers do the Rotary International. Beam me up here. It is time to pass a flat 15 percent sales tax and abolish this gambling, porno-watching IRS completely.

MovieJuice!:  The Sum of All Fears - Dim Sum.
The Sum of All Fears was better as a book. I read the book a long time ago and hardly remember it, but I do remember this - the book was better.

I figured we'd go see what Ben Affleck was doing since we recently sat Matt Damon. We liked Matt.

Half way through this movie I already cast my vote - Bourne Identity BEATS Sum of All Fears.

But wait, the movie started getting good half way through, if you suspend your disbelief about how stupid all the presidents men are. Oh boy are they all hot heads!

At least Ben Affleck has the precense of mind to check in on his girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan . She gets my award as reason to keep watching the movie.

Conclusion - Wait for the video.

Noah Grey is back.
Cutting the Grass.
I cut the grass this weekend and it only took me 10 minutes!

We have a postage stamp sized backyard and out front yard isn't even a yard. It's more of a small area where perennials are planted so we don't have to do anything year after year except water.

I cut the grass with a Black and Decker electric lawnmower I picked up at the Black and Decker outlet in Kittery, Maine.

Electric mowers are so much better than gas ones. they're a lot easier to push around the yard since there isn't a big heavy motor sitting on top of the wheels. I never have to fill it up with gas either!

As a kid, my father had me cut the grass every weekend. Back then, I had really bad allergies. I was allergic to pollen and grass. My parents got me some allergy medication to help me.

So I'd go out and cut the grass, all the while sneezing, eyes watering, and nose running. Then when I was done I'd pop the pill to make myself feel better.

It never seemed to work.

Later I found out that the pill was preventative and supposed to be taken prior to cutting the grass.

Now I've grown out of those allergies and don't have much grass to cut anyway.

Hopefully, there will be less grass there in the future since I never follow Scotts Annual Lawn Care Program.

Listen to samples from Frou Frou's debut album.
July 4th in Boston
The day started off with a scream from my wife when the rack in her closet fell down and all her clothes ended up on the floor.

While transferring all her clothes to the bedroom, she screamed again when she got a splinter right under her fingernail. Ouch! That's gotta hurt. I performed a a quick splinterectomy and all was fine.

I re-attached her clothes rack to the wall and we re-hung all her clothes.

Off To The Beach
Next it was time to pack our bags and head off to my cousins cottage, which is not quite on Cape Cod. I can't say where it is though, because then everyone will want ot go there. Not much traffic and free parking. They really only have two parking spots though, so your car wouldn't be able to fit anyway.

We packed a nice cooler with drinks and sandwiches and headed out. the ride down was uneventful other than a 15 minute detour because of road construction.

We arrived at the cottage and realized that we left the cooler with drinks back home. We never do that!

Our cousins had a refrigerator full of cold drinks for us to share though.

There's nothing like jumping into the ocean and floating around. It was great!

After a great day at the beach we headed home.

I decided to go home the same way we went down, and that detour we had going down was only one way, so we made it home in 45 minutes.

The Boston Pops Orchestra and Fireworks
As I settled in to watch the Channel 5 broadcast of The Boston Pops Orchestra from the Esplanade in Boston, my wife said she wanted to go into the city for the fireworks. Well, I know that they usually get 500,000 people at these concerts and that people camp out days in advance to get close to the Hatch Shell, where the Boston Pops plays, so I suggested that we drive in around 8:30 and just park the car on the side of the road and watch the fireworks if we couldn't find a place to park.

So we drove into Boston. there was no traffic. We drove right into the center of town and parked at Prudential Center. After a short walk towards the Boston Public Gardens, I remembered that Storrow Drive, the road which winds it's way along the Charles River, was closed to traffic. So we worked our way towards Storrow Drive and crossed hte street over to the Esplanade. We really were surprised that we could get so close. We ended up close enough to be able to see Barry Manilow on stage. Not one of them most exciting things to see, be were were very close.

After hanging around hte Hatch Shell for a while, we walked along the Charles River to get a good spot to watch the fireworks from. As we walked we were still able to hear the concert since the city set up huge, I mean really big, towers with huge speakers on them. So not matter where you went, you could hear the concert from the Hatch Shell.

We ended up at Tower #10 overlooking the Charles River. As we sat down we looked out over hte Charles and saw a huge screen broadcasting everything from the Hatch Shell stage. It was cool.

the concert ended with the 1812 Overture. That thing is long! It's misleading. Sometimes you think it's almost over, and then it goes on for another 5 minutes. It ended with cannon blasts and then the fireworks began.

They got a new fireworks company this year. They rocked. The fireworks display was synchronized to music that was playing from the huge loudspeakers.

It was the most amazing fireworks display I have ever seen. they had a lot of unusual fireworks. One looked like a jellyfish that went up in the air, then fell a little, then shot up even more. They also had one that, after exploding, all the little lights that were produced, shot off in different directions. LIke fireflys.

After the fireworks were over we took off to our car and zipped right out of town.

Over all it was a great day.

This morning, we found all my wife's clothes on the floor.

The clothes rack fell down again.

Today I'm taking a trip to Home Depot.
